To be fair, if I saw the name "Lyra" I don't think I'd immediately assume that the name came from the character. It kind of sounds like a normal, pretty name. In fact my spell checker isn't even flagging it. Is it a real name already?

It's a constellation name, so the character didn't originate the name. I don't think it's very popular, but it's not unheard of either. Definitely one of the better fandom-related names you could give your kid.
