Yeah, I know, I just mean I don't think actively villainizing her is sabotaging her character at all. If Light fell for L then Misa actually would do everything in her power to keep them apart, probably up to stabbing L herself. Whereas with most female characters who "get in the way" of slash ships, they are unfairly villainized and turned into petty, violent bitches. Misa actually does fit the bill though imo

I think it can depend on interpretation of the character though.

I know for one of my slash ships, the girlfriend has a bit of an elitist streak and really disliked the guy I slash her boyfriend with. In my fic, I tend to play that up.

I also think her boyfriend shows that he cares WAY more about the other dude than he ever does about her.

I wouldn't insist that it's canon or anything. But I do think it's a legitimate interpretation of their characters.
