Why do you assume it's self-deprecating in a negative sense?

Do I really think I have issues and need to be fixed when I tell myself, "Oh my I need to get myself to church for coming up with this concept lol".

I have legit never heard anyone use "I am [ship] trash" to mean they genuinenly hate themselves.

And yet OP is not the first person I've heard complain about it. What is wrong with people that they must take SOMEONE ELSE'S self-oriented humor seriously??
