Not the OP but I don't really care if someone calls themselves trash for being obsessed with a ship. It's just when they call the ship trash that it becomes obnoxious.

Ship haters often throw around that 'you are trash if you ship this' or 'that ship is disgusting trash', so seeing people who actually like the ship call it trash brings a negative connotation. Haters trash the ship and call it garbage to shame the shippers, so I really can't blame people for getting offended at having something they like called trash. Unless you know the person you have no idea if they are trashing it affectionately or not.
