Did the house in question have cats or dogs? Do they keep the place clean of the liter or is fecal matter strewn around? Do you have to clean areas where the animals have been? Is the place relavativly tidy, or are they very unclean? Or is it possible someone there contracted it from someone else or a animal offsite? If they don't have animals there I wouldn't worry as much.
Though if I were you I'd invest in throw away gloves and wear them in layers for protection. If you could afford it I'd also get those shoe protectors too, and not wear clothing that drags. And be prepared to take clothes off at the door and bag them if you can't wash them, or at least dry them.
My mom was FOREVER dragging stuff home, so this is the essential stuff we did.
