There's also apparently a rift between "Toplockers" (people who think Sherlock would top John) and "Bottomlockers" (people who think John would top Sherlock), with the Bottomlockers accusing Toplockers of supporting...you guessed it...pedophilia.

It really seems like it's just, "I don't like this kink/headcanon/pairing/interpretation. I will call it pedophilia." And they're so disconnected from actual social issues that it doesn't even occur to them how wrong it might be to do that.

And Sherlock isn't really a fandom you'd be most likely to find them in, because that show doesn't have ANY significant characters under late-20s or so, that I can see. So anyone wanting to do underage stuff there has to really go out of their way.

It's making me really, really angry. Pedophilia is a specific and terrible thing. Pedophiles who act on their desires cause real harm to real children. Using pedophilia this way is fucking offensive as all shit, and is a slap in the face to people who've actually been victims of it.

They can bleet about "rape apologists" all they want. They're the ones exploiting the suffering of fucking children to justify harassing people they don't like.

Considering they've been exploiting various groups to shout "racist!", "homophobic!" and just about any other kind of bigotry since before tumblr was even around, it doesn't surprise. Tumblr just made it worse.

I just hope that one day they'll look back on what they did - and feel ashamed of themselves for it.

Maybe I just got lucky in my fandoms. I went through a ship war or two, but I never saw that crap.

It seems like an escalation though. "Racist" and "homophobe" aren't packing the same punch that they used to, so they had to find something even worse to accuse people of.

And I hope they learn. I really do. But I'm afraid they won't. I mean, winterfox hasn't, and she's been playing these kind of games for over a decade. She may have finally overreached, but who she is ain't gonna change at this point.

That's probably it, tbh, since fights on tumblr seem to boil down to "Whoever manages to call the other the worst thing first wins".

I try to remain hopeful since a lot people doing it are young and may just not have enough experience to really understand the full impact of what they're saying. At least, that's what I tell myself.

The people against granting whatever rights (or, you know, actually acknowledging other people are, well, people) always bring up animals - "What are we going to do next, give animals the right to vote?", "If we make this legal, the next thing you know, people will be wanting to marry animals."

And I know it's a derailing tactic, a false slippery-slope argument, and a way to equate women/minorities/LGBT with animals, but it always makes me cringe.
