*When you're speaking solely about the number of fillings required for children, which tracks pretty closely to overall health of teeth in adult populations but obviously isn't a direct one to one. I know there are other sources for a more general argument out there but I'm not exactly going to go digging for them.

Though I don't think we are especially a nation of smokers? Would have to dig up the stats on that but certainly for europe and asia I've always been of the impression we spoke less then average.
