Apocalypse prep is also one of my hobbies! And I can completely understand why you wouldn't want to talk about it, because most people hear about the concept and start to assume you're either a tin-hatter or you're some kind of religious freak. A lot of those skills are actually really useful for non-apocalypse situations, and I can personally vouch that archery is really fun on top of being a good work out for upper body and core strength.

In addition to keeping non-perishable food and bottled water around, you might want to invest in a survival straw, which is a portable water filter that makes any water safe to drink. My brother has one and used it on a recent camping trip to drink out of a river, and it worked perfectly.

Yeah, I am looking around for someplace to maybe get archery lessons. I am from a pretty small town. : /

Those life straws are pretty damn cheap! Only $20.

Ah, small towns are terrible about being able to find things. I got lucky and had my uncle to teach me, so I just had to target shoot in my backyard for practice (which isn't a good idea in the middle of a big city, as it turns out, since my neighbors tried to have me arrested--long story).

They are cheap, but they work so it's worth the cash. Getting a big canteen with a wide mouth to go with it makes it even more useful, since you can just fill the canteen from a river and boom, instant water. I plan to get one next time I've got the spare cash to store in my bugout bag until I need it.

I could probably set up one because my backyard faces an alleyway, which has the side of brick building facing out!

I actually got a couple of fantastic canteens for some damn reason. :P
