(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 11:53 am (UTC)(link)I'm curious because I have a couple friends who love reading fic but have no interest in writing it, but have gotten flak for saying so, so they come up with any excuse to wave off their lack of writing. I've never encountered that "good fic readers also write" thing in my fandoms, but mine are small and since they've both done it I guess it must be a thing.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-23 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)What I do see getting flak, or at least becoming tiresome, is the readers who whine about their ship never getting any fics, badgering other writers with 'requests' constantly, and generally hating on the popular ships for being popular while doing nothing to actually contribute towards the disparity themselves. I'm not saying it's wrong to express your disappointment in lack of fic that's to your taste, but the best way to try changing that is to enthuse and create (no matter how badly) for the thing you like, not demonize the popular thing as though its existence alone is the reason you can't have nice things.
