I love the prequels and the originals and I'm excited for this. Because JJ got what he wanted. Star Trek was jis testing ground, unfortunately.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 12:38 am (UTC)(link)The second's okay if I ignore all the racism and sexism. It's kind of like a half-baked fanfic but not as annoying as the first film.
JJ is just so UNINSPIRED as a filmmaker. He's competent but he has no cinematic vision. In anything I've seen from him.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)Which is what makes me wary about him taking on SW. Do we get the good JJ or the bad JJ? No one will know for sure until we get there.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 10:24 am (UTC)(link)The star wars prequel movies as well as the new ones are the prologue and sequel of the same continuity so I think they had to live up highter standards and expetations.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)"Abrams trek is more critically acclaimed and successful than the star wars prequel."
Not to be combative, but so what? I don't care what other people think, what matters to me is how much I can enjoy a film. And you can tell me until the end of time that a movie is well-rated and everyone loves it but that's still not going to make me enjoy it one iota.
Hell, Star Trek 2009 was the very first piece of Trek media I EVER watched and I hated it. I wasn't some bitter Trek fan with a chip on my shoulder -- I just literally found it to be shit (the characters, the story especially).
And the Star Wars prequels were the first Star Wars media I saw and I really liked them.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)You remind me Simon Pegg and his fanboy entlitlement but on reverse. He is a super vocal hater of the star wars prequel trilogy because for him the original movies are the only ones that count, yet when some star trek fans dislike star trek into darkness he tells them to get over it, that they are butthurt and jealous and they should fuck off.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)Except I'm not going into forums where people are discussing the New Trek film and shitting all over the old ones.
THAT's the difference. I'm not saying that people can't express their hate for the prequels -- that would be ridiculous. I'm just tired of so much discussion about the sequel trilogy revolving around how AWFUL the prequels are. Newsflash: there are Star Wars fans who are also fans of the prequels. We don't need to bring up how awful they are in EVERY SINGLE DISCUSSION OR ARTICLE about the sequel trilogy.
If people want to hate on the PT, go ahead. There are private blogs. You can make a forum thread about it. But does it have to be present in ALL the discussion of Star Wars? Each and every time?
And, okay, I understand wanting to discuss the shortcomings, but could we at least balance it out by mentioning some of the GOOD things the prequels did too? For all that people give credence to ratings, they seem to ignore that Revenge of the Sith is better rated than Return of the Jedi (which is a big reason why I ignore how well movies are rated -- because someone else's opinion doesn't tell you jack).

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)Let me give you an example: I start a thread asking for things people hope/want the sequel trilogy to reference from the prequels.
And a bunch of idiots have to come in and start talking about the shit they DON'T want. Seriously? Can they not read?
If you want to bitch about the prequels on your tumblr or livejournal or whatever go ahead. If you want to make a thread titled "the sequel trilogy better not have any reference to the prequels in it" that is FINE. I will simply choose not to visit that thread. But when I try to make one thread -- ONE FREAKING THREAD -- that is explicitly about positivity why do you have to go in there and start posting about the exact opposite?
I'm not shouting at people for writing negativity in the prequel tags on tumblr or anything (I know people are going to tag their complaints with the relevant tag - I get that). But if I've specifically asked for positivity, why can't you be satisfied with having the rest of the internet?
