Right, misandry doesn't exist. That's why men aren't screwed over with custody, get harsher sentences than women for the same crimes or why in France it's illegal for them to seek paternity tests.

Most of those issue stem from misogyny. Very few men's rights issues stem from the actual hatred of the male gender.

But so what? If the actual real-world effects are screwing over men, then it's misandrist, definitionally. We do need a word for systemic harm to men, because it is a real thing.

But it's not a systematic hatred of men, which is what misandry would be. We need a different word if that's the discussion you want to have.

Systematic harm to men is not a real thing so no, we don't need a word for it.

All of the bad things that happen to men in these 'systematic screwing over' cases are THEIR OWN FAULT.

Wow, I hope you're trolling. Otherwise, you may actually be too stupid to be on the internet.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
you're supposed to say it's a result of the patriarchy

saying it's a result of misogyny is kind of nonsensical

can't even get your talking points right, smdh

They actually aren't screwed over with custody, that's a lie that feminists have sadly fallen for. In fact, when men BOTHER TO PETITION FOR CUSTODY, WHICH THEY ARE LESS LIKELY TO DO, they are more likely to obtain it.

source?

DA, but:

http://scholarship.law.stjohns.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1522&context=lawreview

"a substantial percentage of fathers who would prefer sole or joint custody do not actually request such custodial arrangements. See id. While over thirty percent of fathers want sole custody, fewer than forty percent of those men actually sought sole physical custody. See id. Likewise, roughly thirty-five percent of men would prefer joint custody. See id. at 99. Yet, over half of these men request sole maternal custody, or make no request at all"

A quick google didn't bring up a lot of info except for census data and such, which doesn't really help in determining how many men actually file for custody.

With respect, that's a paper from 1998 that seems to be getting all of its data regarding custody claims from two books also published in the mid-90s, so if nothing else I'm not sure I trust it to be up to date. I'm also not sure it's doing what I'm looking for - it has some information o the number of men who choose not to file custody claims, but not on how much of the gender imbalance that accounts for. Thanks for linking it, though. I'd love to see a more recent study if original!anon had something else up their sleeve.

(I'm also interested to note that according to one of the later citations, the author of one of the books the paper is getting its stats from apparently thinks that men choose not to submit for custody because of the cultural belief that men should get custody; not sure whether it matters either way. I suspect that someone who felt that it was an issue would probably make that argument, as well as arguing that the bias of the courts means that men who want custody don't submit for it because they know they'll lose or because they want to avoid a long drawn-out legal battle for the sake of the kids)
