Text: I’m getting annoyed by the trend in fandom to come up with increasingly snide ways to criticize the acting skills of the main character’s actor. Personally, I find his acting decent enough. Having the experience of publically failing at acting during a drama class, I could understand a little about the difficulty of acting even before the shooting process.

I find this fandom trend really petting due to 2 reasons:

1) It’S not as if the show is a live performance that we have to pay tickets for and watch for the duration of 2-3 hoiurs. Most of us are streaming episodes from the comfort of our own homes. All we lose by viewing a lackluster performance is our voluntary investment of time, yet the negativity generated is disproportionate.

2) Even if a better actor is cast for this role, it won’t improve the inconsistent characterization in the script very much. And if there’s just something about the character’s behavior that leads viewers to have a gut reaction of repulsion and hence project the traits of people they hate onto the character, then acting ability may not be very relevant.

The actor’s character isn’t even my personal favourite. I just feel the need to vent as a large portion of the vocal side of fandom devolves into an echo chamber of negativity directed towards a real person.
