because the rich are automatically forbidden from occasionally having a sucky time of things

after all, cancer scares only affect the unwashed poor

None of these applies to Clarkson, and you missed my point by a mile. Congrats.

Actually, it came out in the last day or two that Clarkson did have a cancer scare just before the incident, and Clarkson's saying that's why he was so on edge at the time. That's what that poster was getting at.

Doesn't really excuse it in my eyes, but that post wasn't just out of nowhere.

If his reaction to being anxious was to thump someone...yeah, no.

He was also told by his doctor, he admitted, to take time off and get it checked out. He refused to do so, mainly because of machismo. Any negative effects on his behaviour due to the extra stress are entirely his own doing.

If he'd taken the time off then he'd either have been gone for a couple of episodes, or more likely the BBC would have pushed back the series a couple of months to accommodate him. Both far better than what happened due to him coming in when he wasn't fit and knew it. This is why presenteeism is worse than absenteeism.

He's rich and has the ability to take time off, get that lump checked out and if needed, get the best treatment money can buy. Instead, he chose to NOT see the doctor. He also chose to punch a producer for failing to provide a hot meal. Again, I emphasize: HIS choices. I'm not going to feel much sympathy because the outcomes for HIS CHOICES turned out to be bad ones.

+1. I had cancer, I didn't attack anyone. Stress does make you a worse person, but you still don't have the right to hurt someone else.
