If he has diabetes (which I doubt; he mentioned his cancer scare in his column of excuses the other week, I'm sure he'd milk diabetes as well), he'd most likely have type 2 diabetes. Given his age and his man baby. Type 2s generally do not get low blood sugar (please note I am not saying we never do). We usually have high blood sugar which needs to be managed by diet and/or meds. I've had high BG levels and it never made me irritable. I only started getting low levels once I had to go on injectable insulin and have only ever felt shaky. Regardless, it would be up to HIM to manage his illness to ensure he didn't end up with a drastic low. It's why I keep juice in/at my desks.

And I might buy illness as reason IF he didn't act like an entitled douche canoe in the rest of his comments and attitudes. I would still think he should be fired because as many have stated, if we were to punch a coworker, we'd be lucky not to be charged by the police.

This.

Also, if someone had a mental health problem and punched someone because their illness was making them incapable of controlling themselves, they'd be locked up in a psychiatric hospital, not just fired.

Yeah, exactly. I mean, I'm severely mentally ill. That doesn't make it okay for me to punch people! If I punch someone over a steak in the depths of an episode, I would be hospitalized--and rightfully so! It's kinda surreal for me to be reading this thread and seeing a SANE man get excused for it.

Hypoglycemia is a side effect of one of the most common drugs used to treat type 2 diabetes, though. (Metformin) I'm on it and I have way more problems now with weak/dizzy/irritable/headache spells if my blood sugar's low. What doesn't help is that it works like an appetite suppressant for a lot of people, so you still have to eat even though you're not hungry and if you forget, the symptoms remind you in unpleasant ways. I keep a granola bar in my purse for emergencies and I tend to eat snack-type meals throughout the day because I can't do big meals anymore. It helps.

Not that I'd buy that as an excuse for punching someone, though.

Some people with type 2 do get the mood swings and massive hypoglycaemia, particularly if their diabetes isn't well controlled and/or as they get older. I know someone who died after going into a hypoglyaemic coma and she had type 2. Your other points are completely correct, though!
