He might not have attacked anyone before, but he's been an entitled aggressive jackass his whole damned life.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
No. Everything he has ever said or done screams entitled jackass.

As for "sorry for him", yeah, he's a multimillionaire.

Save your sympathy.

after all, cancer scares only affect the unwashed poor

Even if it was a condition, isn't it on him to manage the condition he has?

(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes and no, though you'd think someone with diabetes/etc would carry an emergency snack with them. Not that there's any evidence Clarkson has any such condition.

I think he's just a jackass.

He's not the devil and I do think some people have been over the top in their condemnation.

But I don't really get feeling sorry for him. He hit someone at work. Any normal person would be facing assault charges. If anything, he got off lucky. No sympathy from me.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
He punched Piers Morgan. Granted the man is a dickhead but it does count as an attack.

Honestly, if you're already an entitled asshole, and you punch someone, people are more likely to think it's BECAUSE you'red an entitled asshole - whether justified or not.

Also, really, what is this strange type of diabetes that makes you punch people - because I never heard of it?

I'm not even saying there couldn't have been mitigating circumstances - you just seem a bit too eager to come up with them.

I think I saw somewhere that he had a cancer scare a day or two before, so might have been stressed about that. But that doesn't excuse him.

Text: I feel really sorry for this guy. I think he must have had some mitigating factor for what he did. He’s never attacked anyone before.

Maybe he has hypoglycemia or diabetes. Low blood sugar can make you nuts about your food, irritable and have poor control over yourself.

s!b: everyone insists his actions were just because he’s an entitled jackass

He's a huge entitled jackass, but physically attacking someone seemed a bit out of character for him.

He's going through a divorce and had health problems IIRC

Don't watch the show so I don't feel like I can say anything about his 'normal' behavior, but when I hear people speak of him it's always bad.

Now I understand that people can get a bad rep and not deserve it (don't know if this is the case, though I'm leaning towards no), but...he DID punch someone and typically that kind of behavior comes with some kind of punishment. Maybe he was having a horrible day, maybe there was an underlying reason, but I don't see how that makes it justified.

(For the record, my dad is a diabetic and when his blood sugar gets low he gets weak and feels 'off', but I've never seen him angry because of it. Now I understand everyone is different but punching a guy is not a reasonable reaction.)

If he has diabetes (which I doubt; he mentioned his cancer scare in his column of excuses the other week, I'm sure he'd milk diabetes as well), he'd most likely have type 2 diabetes. Given his age and his man baby. Type 2s generally do not get low blood sugar (please note I am not saying we never do). We usually have high blood sugar which needs to be managed by diet and/or meds. I've had high BG levels and it never made me irritable. I only started getting low levels once I had to go on injectable insulin and have only ever felt shaky. Regardless, it would be up to HIM to manage his illness to ensure he didn't end up with a drastic low. It's why I keep juice in/at my desks.

And I might buy illness as reason IF he didn't act like an entitled douche canoe in the rest of his comments and attitudes. I would still think he should be fired because as many have stated, if we were to punch a coworker, we'd be lucky not to be charged by the police.

Nope.

Clarkson is an entitled jackass and a bully.

If his behaviour had occurred in a normal workplace, I think he would have been fired long before the actual incident. And there's no excuse for physical assault. There are plenty of people out there with diabetes, various illnesses, mental and otherwise, all kinds of problems and issues, who don't bully and abuse people.

I am so tired of the Clarkson fans stanning for him as if he's a precious misunderstood baby who needs to be protected. No, he's a grown adult who needs to take some responsibility for himself and his own behaviour.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2015-04-26 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a nice attitude to have, OP. Why waste your time judging someone you've never met when you can see the best in J. Clarkson.

I'm kinda glad that his fame didn't save him from the consequences. That's good. At the same time I think that a one time event like this is not enough to fire anyone.

Well, he has attacked people before, both physically and verbally, so your argument is kinda invalid.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
He's certainly been verbally abusive before. And his defense of being stressed does not excuse him hitting someone. Yes, he'd had some potentially devastating news, and yes tongue cancer is scary. However, he was also told to drop what he was doing and get it checked out, and he did not do so. Despite being extra-stressed, and despite being in a high pressure job, he pushed it to the back of his mind and kept on plugging away. If he'd taken a short leave to be checked out, then he wouldn't have been a boiling cauldron of stress that ended up with him exploding. Imagine if his stress unwound in a different way. Suppose he was doing one of his ludicrous stunts, he lost his concentration due to that stress, and ended up putting a car off the road and through a crowd of onlookers?

When your doctor tells you to take a break and get something checked out, they are not just concerned about the immediate issue, but also about your whole-health too. He wasn't fit to be at work, he knew it, he came in anyway out of some sort of macho plough away at things and ignore them, and he came a cropper and it is a mercy that he only injured one other person. He deserved to be fired because of that.

Message to everyone: Don't go into work if you are stressed or sick. You do yourself and your employer no favours (and while that may be a hard thing to do if you are on a min-wage job, Clarkson is wealthy enough for hard cash to not be a factor).

Er, no...

(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
He has physically attacked someone before. Granted, it was Piers Morgan and people don't mind that as much, but clearly this isn't a one-off for him. People don't go from being nice, well adjusted personalities to being the sort of person who punches a producer because they didn't get a hot dinner, that's not reasonable behavior.

Oh, and FYI? I have issues with low blood sugar and hypoglycemia and get headachy, sick and cranky when I don't have food. That's why I carry around snacks with me and I have never ever come close to punching anyone just because I was hungry. It's not a justification for violence and you're not doing any favors to people with this condition by trying to rationalize what Clarkson did.

His mother died, he went through a divorce and he's obsessed with this work. He didn't ask for help when he needed it, so he imploded. It's a thing people (especially men) do when they don't know how to have a support system. I don't feel sorry for him because yeah, he can be an entitled jackass. But can I understand why someone with his lack of emotional intelligence imploded? Sure.

Basically this was the last straw. The guy had been acting like a dumbarse before and bullied the entire staff. BBC wanted to get rid of him earlier on, but the loyal (read nutcase) fans prevented that. Not to forget that the same fans upon hearing a woman could replace the arseface wanted her dead.
