He's certainly been verbally abusive before. And his defense of being stressed does not excuse him hitting someone. Yes, he'd had some potentially devastating news, and yes tongue cancer is scary. However, he was also told to drop what he was doing and get it checked out, and he did not do so. Despite being extra-stressed, and despite being in a high pressure job, he pushed it to the back of his mind and kept on plugging away. If he'd taken a short leave to be checked out, then he wouldn't have been a boiling cauldron of stress that ended up with him exploding. Imagine if his stress unwound in a different way. Suppose he was doing one of his ludicrous stunts, he lost his concentration due to that stress, and ended up putting a car off the road and through a crowd of onlookers?

When your doctor tells you to take a break and get something checked out, they are not just concerned about the immediate issue, but also about your whole-health too. He wasn't fit to be at work, he knew it, he came in anyway out of some sort of macho plough away at things and ignore them, and he came a cropper and it is a mercy that he only injured one other person. He deserved to be fired because of that.

Message to everyone: Don't go into work if you are stressed or sick. You do yourself and your employer no favours (and while that may be a hard thing to do if you are on a min-wage job, Clarkson is wealthy enough for hard cash to not be a factor).

A good advice if you can afford not to go to work.

Which Clarkson certainly can.

Yeah. I'm sure he doesn't live paycheck to paycheck. Unless I missed some big news about him.
