His mother died, he went through a divorce and he's obsessed with this work. He didn't ask for help when he needed it, so he imploded. It's a thing people (especially men) do when they don't know how to have a support system. I don't feel sorry for him because yeah, he can be an entitled jackass. But can I understand why someone with his lack of emotional intelligence imploded? Sure.

Lead poisoning?

No, it could be. He's always been a serious car person and a large chunk of his life was spent in the leaded fuel era, so he's presumably inhaled a lot more lead than most people. Lowered impulse control and increase in aggression are symptoms of chronic lead poisoning. I wonder if there is an MRI or PET scan of his brain anywhere, I'm sure it would prove interesting.
