First find out if they are open to critiques, then talk to them DIRECTLY and not through the tags (this is one way deviantart is better then tumblr, because you can ask for critiques and there are comment threads.)
And if you want to talk about something related to the art (like feelings on a ship) put it in another post and not the main art post.
