You have to have a reason to want to participate, whether it's fic-writing, modding, whatever.

I used to write and mod quite a lot in my small fandom. It was a lot of fun.

However, it was a small closed fandom, and as time went on, the fandom composition changed. The focus became exclusively on the juggernaut pairing (95% fluff and hurt/comfort)- right around the time I completely burnt out on the juggernaut and became far more interested in rarepairs, gen and plotty stuff.

So I moved on. No hurt feelings, but it didn't make sense to keep modding someone else's party. I still have super-fond memories of the fandom, though, and every so often I go back and lurk to see if the focus has widened again.
