Agreed. And I was for the Ferguson protests. Because those were protests, even if some lines were crossed. This is just rioting.

I wasn't. I was for Tamir Rice and Eric Garner however. It's fucking sad that this case -- in which a man clearly lost his life due to faults by the police -- is being used as a pretext to loot and mob. Just...that's the greatest disrespect you could pay Freddie Gray.

The peaceful protests were fine. Repeatedly looting the same stores over and over again, starting fires, etc. was not fine. There was a shitton of inexcusable rioting in Ferguson, and a lot of innocent people's livelihoods are destroyed because of the rioters, and the town is probably never going recover at this point.

Like his step father saying to burn the city down. All those black businesses that were destroyed by looters and rioters. Like what the fuck.

Exactly. There's a tendency on both sides of the aisle to make these sorts of riots into a Minority vs. The Man type thing. Look at these brave souls taking to the streets. A mans life is more important than 'a few broken windows', right?

But the people who are actually harmed by it aren't the crooked cops and racist politicians of the world. They tend to get off b/c there's rarely enough evidence for a conviction (or the case isn't as clear-cut as the news tried to spin it).

It's the people who actually live in these communities that are harmed by rioting. The people who own the small local businesses. The people who own houses or property that are now worthless. The people who are now unemployed b/c every business either went bankrupt immediately or is leaving as fast as they can. The people who are going to loose access to medical care or fire protection as infrastructure becomes unavailable or shuts down completely. It just helps perpetuate the cycle of poverty that these black communities are struggling to break out of, as all these black people lose their jobs or their companies or their financial security.

NAYRT - So much this.
