Honest question, why is agnostic in the same boat as atheist?

They're basically the same thing depending on the definition you use.

atheist: a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods.

agnostic: a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God.

Basically, they're both skeptics. There's only a difference if you actively disbelieve in god/gods as an atheist but most atheists I know say that they just don't believe in anything.
