My mom may not qualify for the only decent treatment for her liver cancer, because her liver isn't quite healthy enough. Her other options are really nasty, not very effective chemo, or death in ~6 months. Here's hoping they let her get her blood work done again and it's better this time. (And that she stays sober.) Shit, why can't medical science just be 10 years further along, with 3D-printed replacement organs and genetically-modified-to-attack-cancer HIV and measles? I feel so bad for her.

Can she get on a clinical trial maybe? That might get her access to new experimental drugs. I'm sorry about your mom. So often the best we can offer is palliative care, and I know that's not enough.

nayrt

OTOH, sometimes palliative care prolongs a person's life beyond anything that was expected. Being comfortable and having your needs listened to, and being in the presence of people you love, can help a lot.
