Rabbits aren't usually seen as creepy, costumes aren't always creepy... so why can't a person wear a rabbit costume without looking like a rabid psycho killer who just escaped from the asylum?

http://cdn.happyplace.com/assets/images/2012/04/4f814373dc152.jpeg This one isn't so bad to me, compared to the others. And I think it's the lack of a mouth that does it. It makes it look more like a stuffed animal, albeit a really big one.
