Rabbit costumes

Why are rabbit costumes so damn creepy?

Like these:

Rabbits aren't usually seen as creepy, costumes aren't always creepy... so why can't a person wear a rabbit costume without looking like a rabid psycho killer who just escaped from the asylum?

Not seeing a problem.

Cause rabbits are normally curled up

when they're "tall", like, all stretched-out, like an upright human, they're usually dead, so it registers as "wrong" to us

that's my theory

Cause it goes straight into the uncanny valley. Not human looking enough to register as a person in a costume, not animal enough to not look like person in a costume either. So the brain tries to square the paradox in the traditional way, with the urge to either flee the freak or murder it.

It's the faces. Notice how in many cases the eyes are slanted a certain way; this makes them look sinister, almost as if the rabbit is angry about something. There's also something about the mouths that are unnerving; many times the entire headpiece is just horribly misshapen.

http://cdn.happyplace.com/assets/images/2012/04/4f814373dc152.jpeg This one isn't so bad to me, compared to the others. And I think it's the lack of a mouth that does it. It makes it look more like a stuffed animal, albeit a really big one.

They may not have seemed that creepy at the time.

IDK, you notice that a lot of the kids don't look too happy.

Kids are not universally, or even typically, fond of strangers in costumes and full-face masks.

Does the guy in the fourth link (I know it's the same person as the third, but you can see the front of his outfit) have bugs crawling up his pants? D: I think he was probably trying to be a little bit creepy.
