...that makes me want to watch it >_>

The show really did have a lot going for it before it went strange, as interesting as the strange was. I'm not sure it was a decision thought all the way through. Also, they really needed another series to develop the paranormal arc.

I started watching it recently, and when the latest season started to get weird I thought "Well this is one thoroughly well jumped shark" but I have to admit I kinda liked it more by the end of it. I think it's a shame it's ended, I'd have loved to see how they went with it.

I started watching this but couldn't get into it for some reason. The fact that it goes supernatural puts me off even more, though. :(

I love the two main characters, and Chandler's tragic gaze is very fetching. I didn't like the bloody scenes so after the actor's Tweet about all the scary in the new season I've never got around to watching it.

I quite enjoyed the supernatural stuff, mainly because I thought the devil masquerading as a little old lady was a fun idea, and the actress was truly terrifying. I also thought the individual hauntings of the entire team were well done.

Mainly I'm annoyed it got cancelled because I REALLY wanted to see how Chandler would handle it in the next season. It all feels totally left up in the air.

Hmm, I enjoyed the show but never watched the last season. This makes me sort of glad I didn't because while I enjoy supernatural stuff (and used to enjoy Supernatural itself), not everything has to include it. Whitechapel was great as is.

Image: screen cap from Whitechapel, Google Image Search says his name is Rupert

Text: I absolutely adore this show but I think they made a huge mistake messing with the genre and going down the supernatural route. I think the show would still be going strong today if they'd left it alone and it was still just a regular crime drama like all the rest.

Rupert is the actor's first name (Rupert Penry-Jones). :) The character's name was Joseph Chandler.

I've only seen a couple of episodes of this show (from the second season, I think) and it made me so frustrated. Everyone was freaked out all the time, and I was like, well of course you're scared. You're in a super dark, creepy old building. TURN A FREAKING LIGHT ON.

And that's my review of Whitechapel.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-02 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That's gotta have been one of the later seasons, probably even the much maligned last one. There were no creepy, dark, abandoned houses in the first two.

Oh it wasn't a creepy old house they were in, it was their office. The building (police station? whatever it was) was super creepy and dark all the time. No windows, no lights, always shrouded in darkness. How do you work in darkness? That is so bad for the eyes.

Yeah, that is pretty much my thoughts on this too. Whitechapel is not the best tv-series ever, but I did find it entertaining and I liked the characters a lot (Chandler and Miles and their dynamics in particular) so I was rather bummed out when the writing went from "creepy but explainable crime drama" to "idk, it might be supernatural forces"

I only watched the first season, and am trying to watch the second, but since I'm watching it purely for Rupert Penry-Jones, it's not that high on my to-watch list.

I'm actually convinced that's how the large majority of fandom felt. :( It was such a good show, too, but then they went off the rails with their woman in red and all that crap. Didn't even buy the last DVD set, even though it used to be my #1 show. :(
