I don't view it as a deliberate slur, but I think it was a rather unimaginative addendum that fell well below the standard of a Pratchett footnote.

The t slur 99% of the time also comes from a place of assumptions based on social programming. It's just that these assumptions are a lot more damaging, because they boil down to "these people aren't really human". Let's not kid ourselves that the majority of the world's population doesn't feel that way about us.
