Doesn't Pratchett make a lot lot of absolutist statements in narration that are blatantly untrue? I always assumed they were meant as jokes, not things he actually believed or expected people to take seriously.

I think you're giving an old hateful angry man a lot more credit than he deserves.

Hi Troll.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-02 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
...you have never read a single thing he has ever written have you. Or seem to realize he is dead. Or never seemed to be angry even as his brain failed him. Seriously, stop trolling or grow up or read a book or I don't know fucking know but wow you have no idea who you are even talking about. Other than his race, gender, and that he was 'old' when he died.

You are John C Wright and I claim my five pounds.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-02 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
But... but I'm confused.

Aren't John C Wright's politics on the precise opposite end of the spectrum? Wouldn't he be precisely the person to say that women ARE genetically predisposed to like pink?

John C Wright is on record as having wanted to punch Pratchett out for views he objected to.

They are. It's just that this thread either has a few trolls, or people whose reading comprehension is quite poor, not sure which.

I'm getting the impression it's one troll anon trying to stir shit up, tbh.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-02 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Why can't it be both?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-02 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
It looks like one or two trolls making lots of comments to make it look like there's more of them.

Yeah, the point of the joke is that it's ridiculous, although having been in close proximity with 7 year old girls in the real world readers might think it seems like it's not. Hence joke.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-03 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.
I always assumed it was because Discworld kinda tends to work that way. If enough people assume something to be true on Discworld, then it becomes true(ish) because of that. Discworld runs on belief and narrative causality. It also tends to be a parody/satire of trends and cliches in fantasy literature. And the real world.
