(Anonymous) 2015-05-02 12:05 am (UTC)(link)It definitely wouldn't be fair to say that ALL or even the vast majority of victims of child abuse grow up to be abusers, but unfortunately the cycle of abuse is very real and children who grow up in abusive homes are at least more likely to become violent later in life than children who didn't (there have been a lot of case studies and such written about it, but here's a site that has most of the statistics in one place: http://www.safehorizon.org/page/child-abuse-facts-56.html). A lot of people grow up to become like their parents, for better or worse. It's a very real and very sad thing that happens, and it would be a disservice to pretend that it's just some myth that's perpetuated by bigots and ignore the issue.
