I'm in a similar boat, though it's Graham I'm still bitter over, not Neal.

(Not that I didn't like Neal, too, I was just annoyed about the love interest shell games before he ever came onto the scene.)

I guess Graham just never really interested me as a character and I didn't really feel the chemistry with Emma. Neal/Emma just hit ship buttons for me.

I'm pretty sure he didn't interest a lot of people. He was just a character type I'm particularly fond of, and the earliest in the list of characters I liked who got sidelined or killed off.
