I like them too. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air ones are the best.

In some cases I can appreciate what they're trying to do. My issue is that they often send the wrong messages. Like when a character will become anorexic so she'll be prettier, and after she's told "you're great the way you are," she's fine. That is not how eating disorders work. And so those kinds of episodes end up doing more harm than good, because they promote myths, not facts.

... Okay, SECOND misfire. Sorry. This comment's cursed.

lol don't worry about the misfire. Looking at it analytically I agree with you, but I guess a well-intentioned sort of narm is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Yeah, Fresh Prince actually did them fairly well a lot of them time. The episode where Carlton got a gun for protection after Will got shot actually managed to be poignant and touching even if it was a bit heavy handed

The way Will got shot in that one was so comical too. The ominous offscreen shadow of doom.

The one where Will's dad ran away again and he ended up crying on Uncle Phil's shoulder was awesome though. I cried at that bit, and I don't cry easily.

And any episode which dealt with Uncle Phil's past as a radical civil rights campaigner, pure gold.

The Will asking why his father left him was amazing. It still makes me cry.

I recently caught the one where Carlton is in denial/experiencing racism for the first time (gets pulled over and arrested by the cops for Driving While Black). It's moments like those that I realize how damn good this show was.
