Pedophiles are bad. If you defend pedophiles, you're a pedophile. And the only thing worse than a pedophile is a "traitor" who posts on Something Awful.

In retrospect, I am so glad I got banned. The witch hunt for any hint of "pedophilia" was just getting worse and worse, with crazy accusations all over the place.

Ah yes, when an allegation of pedophilia was considered concrete proof of actual pedophilia. Not even joking there, at one point the site's old Mod Fast Eddie deleted over two hundred works pages because he suspected they endorsed pedophila. Including Lolita, a lot of folk got bans for telling him that Lolita was not endorsing pedophila at all.

That was half my fault, actually! Fast Eddie posted a new rule for deleting pedophilic works. Someone else posted asking if Lolita would be deleted. I posted saying that a strict reading meant Lolita would be deleted, and since he'd already said that page was safe, I'd like to see a few more protections for pages that weren't as famous and well-known. He responded by deleting Lolita and telling us that the only people who ever mentioned it were pedophiles. (The page wound up restored but perma-locked to "protect" it from pedophiles.)

No, Perverted Justice was pre-6A and Strikethrough. They were a single journal that was threatening to doxx people and get them deleted if they didn't delete their chan by a deadline or something like that.

Like, what? How would removing Lolita from TVtropes help anything? I don't even get how people can READ that book and think it supports raping kids. Just... BUH? *headsplode*

I remember you telling me about academic essayists who were convinced the story was about a little girl seducing and ruining a grown man.

As for why it was removed, I think Fast Eddie had some sort of personal history. At one point, someone posted that they didn't have a problem with drawings of naked children, since no actual children were pictured. Fast Eddie responded with a hypothetical about someone uploading a drawing of your naked daughter, then claiming it wasn't your daughter, it was a drawing of a two thousand year old wizard who just looked like a child. Everyone else pretty much went "What?"

*sigh* Yes. I'd almost finished purging that crap from my brain too... at least it proves that academic loftiness doesn't mean you have SENSE.

It's a very disturbing trend, using accusations of pedophilia as a way to silence people whom one dislikes. It's kind of...dammit, what's the word? They're taking something that's an actual issue, and a pretty serious one at that, and broadening the definition until it no longer has any meaning except as an insult. And that's not good. At all.

It is a common enough silencing tactic. I remember, way back in the mists of time, when it used to be acceptable to accuse someone of homosexuality for the same effect. Young and sheltered people learn quickly what kind of accusations get taken seriously, and use them as weapons since it takes a lot of false accusations before someone yanks their leash short and punishes them for it. With the case of Fast Eddie, since there was no one capable of pulling his leash and with a selection of people who were either arse lickers or too scared to disagree, he got away with a lot.

I dunno about SA, but he had a big nervous breakdown on Tvtropes and sold the site. Not sure how legal that was, but at least he is gone. Wish he had taken his lead sycophant, Fighteer with him, but we'll take what we can get.
