The only other thing I'd suggest is having an anxiolytic medication as a back up/part of your tool kit if you ever find yourself in a situation where nothing is working. It's usually not a great idea to go on a regular dosage of those medications (they can be very habit-forming) unless the anxiety is incredibly severe and debilitating, but I have seen people have pretty good results using them sparingly and occasionally.

My therapist said I could ask my GP for this. I have an appointment pretty soon, so I'll talk to them about it. I'm not too keen on going on meds, but I suppose at this point this feels like the better alternative.

Don't think of it as "going on meds"... think of it as a last resort for when everything else you have tried isn't working. You may find you need to use it several days in a row in order to get yourself calm again, but you should also consider that leaving anxiety untreated can often cause it to feed back on itself and worsen the condition.

Really, getting it under control by whatever means necessary is the best way of stopping it before it really starts.
