I pretty much date with the express purpose of sex; I just befriend the person, otherwise. So... as soon as is feasible, would be a good time, for me.

I'm probably not dating someone if I don't also want to have sex with them. I'm not a huge fan of "give them a chance, attraction might come later!" dating.

Oh dear god that line of reasoning is almost always disastrous. Attraction is in at least some part biological/hormonal and that's never going to change no matter how much you get to know somebody.

One of my friends started dating a guy because she felt she "owed" it to him for being her friend for so long after he asked her out, wasn't attracted to him at all, and asked me "well you can fake it right? it'll come in time." I asked her if they'd done anything physical and she said they'd kissed, and that she felt "repulsed" when they did.

Dude. DUDE. Dude.

Do not date a guy you're "repulsed" by. He would, I assure you, not want to date you if he knew that he repulsed you. Let him find a girl who is actually attracted to him for the love of fuck you're not doing him any favors and you don't owe somebody sex for friendship. He got your friendship out of it too.
