Re: Avengers: Age of Ultron

Well, now I feel like I watched a different movie from everybody else. :/

But maybe I just have different expectations. I expect an Avengers movie to be full of action and one-liners, and that's what I go to see...so I got what I wanted.

Also, I'm really not a movie buff at all so I probably just have low standards?

Kind of disappointed though that nobody else here is squeeing. I feel a bit deflated now.

Aw, I'm not totally squeeing but don't feel bad, people are being over critical because we're all used to the super hero movies now and I think it's difficult to maintain that level of hype that there was for the first Avengers.

It's inevitable, geeks always turn and get critical.

I have a few beefs but I'm still pretty much on the Marvel bandwagon, and overall the movie did exactly what it was supposed to do. These are fun super hero movies with a lot of action and comedy, and Ultron definitely delivered all that.

I guess part of it is that I didn't spend a lot of time or energy hyping for it beforehand? Hm.

We didn't either, and while I did enjoy it, I did feel like there was quite a bit left on the cutting room floor that might have better fleshed parts out. Such as the whole Thor and the pool of water thing. Places like Ropes of Silicon, IO9, etc made a big deal about some woman that was spotted standing or rising from the pool and trying to figure out who it was in footage that was supposedly leaked months before the release, and well, it wasn't even in the movie.

That scene in particular is just... disjointed I guess would be a good way to put it.

And the movie needed more Heimdal.

Awwww, sorry. I don't want to harsh your squee or anything and overall I did enjoy it more the second time! Squee away!

I will talk to you about things I liked. I loved Nat and Clint's continued friendship, and I loved seeing her as auntie Nat, it was cute as hell. Also her friendship with Steve too, that wasn't swept under the rug either.

I cared more the second time seeing Pietro die and it was mostly because of Wanda's reaction, that scream looked pretty intense and it hit me properly on another viewing. Vision was totally cool as well, could have done with a bit more of him maybe, but as far as a new character went I liked him.

(Also I don't actually hate Bruce/Nat or think it's the worst ever, it was just a little eeeeeh for me, I mean fuck I wanted to like it more! I'm actually gonna wait for fic to fix it a little because the same happened with Thor/Jane in fanfic for me).

No, nobody harshed on my squee in particular! I was just surprised by all the negativity overall. I didn't expect everyone to ~~love~~ it but honestly I really liked it and it felt just like any other MCU movie to me so I was surprised that people who like MCU were so disappointed with it. But then, standards, I guess? Maybe I'm just not good at discerning details in movies.

(In general, though, I don't know why people go into superhero movies expecting something written on a level of literary expertise. It's superheroes ffs)

Yeah, Wanda's reaction was pretty heartbreaking. :/ His death would have bothered me a lot less if he weren't a twin. And if he didn't have a superpower that was pretty unique compared to everyone else.

Ironically, Vision, while cool, fell flatter to me than some of the other characters. Hmm. Related: I was so excited that JARVIS wasn't dead, but I guess now JARVIS doesn't really exist anymore? and that makes me kinda sad.

For me it was how disjointed it felt to the rest of the MCU, like this wasn't even me being overly nitpicky(which I am bad at) because even my mum(who isn't as into these films as I am) was like 'where does that fit with the other films?' and I was just a little bit gruntled about that. But oddly my second viewing had me liking it more, I don't get it but I'll take it tbh.

(I'm just trying to focus on the bits I liked, it's more fun that way).

Unfortunately I was spoiled for his death so I think that's part of the reason I didn't really care the first time, but the second? It kind of sucked to watch. I think mostly I'd just have liked to have seen more of him as well, flesh him out a bit more yanno? Because we barely got to know him, which I suppose is part of the sad factor but still. Rude.

Yeah that's a weird one. Like technically the Vision is JARVIS but also not, he's a new person so I think it's safe to say that Mr. AI butler is no more. Which is a sad thing but I also just kind of like Vision from the comics so uh, yay Vision!

Oh! Also Thor's quest, while a bit too cut apart imo, was cool to see and I liked how it started the set up to Infinity Wars. That's making me more excited for Thor 3 tbh.

Among my friends, general concensus is that Pietro isn't dead, but is in a stasis of sorts while his body rejects and heals from the bullets. It *is* a superhero setting after all, stranger things have happened.

Either way, I feel his 'death' served to make Wanda come into her own. I felt she relied on him way too much, even if he was '12 minutes older'. This, proves to her that she is stronger than she knew and can take care of herself and hold her own if she needed to.

Aww don't feel bad. Whenever something gets super popular, there's a backlash and people turn critical.

It wasn't a perfect movie, but it was great fun and I really enjoyed it. Squeeing right along with you!
