Collapsed for length.

I love speculating on the intimate details of characters' lives.

(...Image [of a brass mannequin in a semi-sheer swimsuit with shell, rock, and netting details IDK] was a google image result for "intimate details.")

X used to have an eating disorder, and she brushes with Sensodyne because the enamel of her teeth has been worn thin.

Now that Y is sober, he pairs pop with meals like he would have paired wine: clear citrusy sodas for white meat, colas for red meat.
Z is enough of a hippie that she uses a menstrual cup and washable pantiliners.

I spend way too much time thinking about these things and sometimes get annoyed when someone mentions a headcanon that doesn't fit with one of my own.

I'd never complain about that anywhere but here, though, because I know how silly it is.

(Like these headcanons aren't silly enough.)

Isn't that normal though?

That's pretty much the <whole point of people writing this stuff out in fanfic, I think.

I headcanon a supporting character in my fandom as having grown up a skinny little comic book-nerd who was blessed with slightly above average looks and a good amount of muscle mass and, mentally, is still dorky as fuck despite the fact he can kill someone with his bare hands. (this does have some canon basis)

Another is a somewhat complicated AU headcanon where one canon character is a transwoman and another is a DFAB transman with a very specific intersex condition.

So don't sweat it OP. We're all a bit weird.

More like keep your nasty possession! Sue fantasies away from my favorite characters.

This is cute

It's details like that that make fic great.

At least until everyone in a fandom latches on to trait and refuses to accept any other characterization. Fanon that takes on a life of its own pisses me off.

"Snape Manor"

Wasn't he super poor? Or is this a pre-DH thing?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-05 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
da

Yeah, pre-DH. Since Snape had been Death Eater and favored Malfoy in class, a significant number of people assumed that Snape was a rich pureblood, scion of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, godfather to Draco, old fox-hunting buddies with Lucius or something like that.

I rarely ever have headcanons -- I usually have multiple mutually exclusive theories -- but I do have "nope" buttons for certain other-fans' headcanons, which are based on ridiculously personal and irrational headcanon-ish reasoning, so I totally get you, OP. Honestly, there are very few things in fandom that are stupid -- it's only a lack of perspective and self-awareness that makes them stupid.

I get weirdly fixated on food-related headcanons. Like, which character is a good cook, and which one could light instant noodles on fire without touching anything flammable. Little details like that.
