I know a guy that looks like a 10 years younger version of Mac and has some of his traits (clothes, comes off as dumb, talks about fighting) and I'm pretty sure I project my feelings for Mac, mainly disgust mixed with pity, onto him.
That's probably not cool of me, he may just be a socially awkward guy who dresses weirdly. Or he's on the spectrum.
But he is so much like Mac it drives me nuts, and I can't tell anyone without being completely offensive.
Sometimes I wonder if he saw a guy who has a face like him on TV and decided to become him. But nobody would be like that on purpose.
The part that probably makes me sound the craziest is that sometimes I get a feeling of "gay solidarity" with him, like "aw maybe he's not so bad, I know what it's like having to hide", and need to remind myself that he has given me NO reason to think he is anything other than asexual. Apart from being exactly like Mac in EVERY OTHER WAY.

TL;DR: OP confuses real person and fictional character in a way that is very unflattering for the real person.
