5. I love Luigi to death. He's my favorite Mario character.

But you are right. He is so terribly overrated it hurts.

I can't believe the number of Mario fanfics I've seen where Luigi for whatever reason hates his brother, kills Mario, etc. They're usually written by people with such Luigi fanaticism that they take everything that makes Luigi lovable and throw it out the window.

Luigi has been so overrated to the point that people make him into a homicidal psychopath stu just because they want him to be the star, and not Mario. Even though Luigi makes it clear multiple times in the games that he doesn't want the spotlight. And it makes me sad. D:

26. The only reason multi-chapter fics seem more popular is because there's something to keep fans coming back, and that because they get regularly updated, they're circulated more and have longer to get a larger following.

This "OMG DRABBLES >>>>>>> CHAPTER FICS" crusade is really getting out of proportion.

Apparently, Luigi, despite the fact that he and Mario have like, the tightest brother relationship ever, and prefers to, you know, stay home and do the laundry guard the home front, actually is very jealous of Mario and wants the fame and parades and stuff Mario gets. So much he's willing to convert the Poultergust 3000 into a bazooka and shoot Mario's brains out.

...yes, I saw a fic with that exact premise. Seriously.

Back in the days when Mario fandom was really active (like, 8 years ago, although it hasn't really ever died down), those kinds of fics were WAY common place.

And I wouldn't be surprised if there's still stuff like that posted on Fanfiction.net too. (I don't visit there often, so I wouldn't know for sure) =/

OH GOD YES.

I think most of fandom's fanaticism with Luigi is what made me like Mario more. I got so sick of the Luigiheads tearing down Mario, I became a fan of the lead guy himself just to support him.

That isn't to say Luigi is a horrible character. Far from it. He's great in games like 'Mario and Luigi 1' (the sequel notsomuch, but that whole game sucked ass to begin with) and even 'Luigi's Mansion' where he -GASP!- actually rescues his brother and is so happy he's alive at the end of the game. Would he have reacted the way he did if Mario was such a domestic abuser like people claim him to be?

I've often joked with my sister that Luigi fans are like a fanatical religious cult. Unfortunately, that isn't too far from the truth. I think there's still a fatwa out against me for my thread at NSider a year or so ago saying that Luigi was not the best Mario character ever (but also stressed he wasn't the worst, either, but some people are very selective in remembering things).

But yeah, Luigi = Awesome. Luigi as portrayed by overzealous fans = Not Awesome.
