Have your fantasy world all you want. That doesn't mean you need to treat people whose beliefs differ from yours like shit. Isn't that your issue with the "vocal majority" in the first place?

I'm not in a position to treat anyone like shit for their political beliefs, nor have I. I typically try and keep politics and fandom separate and I like when others do as well. But, when it comes up, well, it's no secret I'm very liberal and fundementally opposed to the conservative ideology and mindset that festers in the U.S. today.

There are no political "beliefs". Stop treating politics like faith! I mostly respect people's expression of their faith, as long as they don't hurt anybody (like refusing them the right to marriage), but I see no need to "respect" politics.
