The only ones I know where you have to pay, it's those really fancy ones that have the insane self-cleaning systems. So I assume the charge is to pay off the price of putting them up or something.

These were just regular, smelly public toilets. It was a let down.

I got stuck in one of those weird pod toilets with automatic doors once. My friend and I were both in there trying to get beer out of our shirts (Australia Day, don't ask) and the sensors went funny I guess, because the door shut and all the lights went off and we were like "sooo. what now?". Luckily someone else needed to pee and they screamed because we were just standing in there in the dark, silently waiting.
