Re: Fandom Gripes Pet Peeves
(Anonymous) 2015-05-07 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)1. People who say they stop watching a show because they are tired of characters getting killed, but continue to watch other shows that tend to even kill more characters. Like a person stops watching Walking Dead because of the deaths but continues to watch Game of Thrones.
2. People who only start watching a show because of a certain ship becoming canon. For example some Korrasami shippers. I know a few who have never watched the first series with Aang because they were not into the premise or genre but boom once Korrasami was canon they watched LoK. I understand wanting representation, but forcing yourself to watch a series that you are not certain you are going to like for a pairing just makes me go WTF.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-08 12:03 am (UTC)(link)2. ...don't people start watching anything without a guarantee they're going to like it? I've started watching about a dozen shows this year alone, for a variety of reasons. I've liked maybe two of them. I wasn't forcing myself; I was watching to see if the hype/reviews/rec/actor/whatever that piqued my interest would mean I enjoyed the show.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-08 03:52 am (UTC)(link)Supernatural, on the other hand, has killed off every single prominent female character to appear, and 'prominent' here is used very loosely, because most of them were still treated as largely irrelevant to the overall narrative and seen very rarely.
There are definitely problems with GoT, but it still treats its female characters better than Supernatural. Then again, so does pretty much everything that isn't an MRA tract.
