What are some lesser known, hidden gems on Netflix?

Or a movie/tv show you think everyone should watch?

None of these are on Netflix but I always recommend The Fall, Dark City, and Pushing Daisies.

Seconding Dark City. Director's Cut, tho

Double Indemnity! Great old noir film, really awesome watch.

Everyone should watch Justified. I don't think it's on Netflix though, but seriously... Justified is amazing.

Oh, and Person of Interest.

It's on Amazon Prime! Though Season 6 isn't Prime but all the others are.

Sorry! I guess I didn't pay attention to the Netflix part of the comment... I forgot, lol. I can't help but always pimp Justified though! It doesn't get the attention it deserves, which always makes me sad because it's brilliant and I'd like to see lots of discussion on it. It's one of those shows that's consistently good and it has one of the best casts on TV and such snappy writing and I just want everyone to know it.

I don't think FX ever did a good job of advertising it, tbh. I'm shocked at how long it ran considering just about every time I mention it no one knows what I'm talking about.

I hope you find somewhere to watch it! Maybe the FX website would have some episodes? Don't know though. Or Hulu? I know you need an account for some things, but I've used it before without one.

I know right. It's like it never existed. I've never seen it advertised anywhere.

I got into an argument over whether or not it existed because my friend was convinced I was thinking of Deadwood. Yes they both have Timothy Olyphant in a law enforcement role. No they are not the same thing!

It is a real thing that exists and it is beautiful.

I know my local rental place has a physical copy of a few seasons. Most streaming sites don't work with my internet speed. I don't have the patience for buffering since Netflix showed me what life could be like if I didn't have to wait five minutes to load one minute of video.

A Different World - Late 80s/Early 90s sitcom set at a Black University. I recommend starting at Season 2 since there's a big cast shake up at the end of Season 1. I loved this show when I was a kid and it still makes me smile. Whitley/Duane forever! I also like that it features voice-actor-extraordinaires Cree Summer and Dawnn Lewis as lead actors.

Sadly, I must warn that, as a program produced by Bill Cosby, he shows up in an episode or two in the first season. That will make some people legitimately uncomfortable. But, again, if you can overcome his involvement, you'll find a show that's still unlike anything else on TV.

If you haven't seen Daredevil yet and don't mind the MCU getting a bit Frank Miller with the violence (if not the everything else, fortunately) it's a fantastic show that is well worth watching in and of itself (it's basically a legal drama with punching!) and not just as part of the MCU.

Isn't it great? I watched the first episode 'cuz I needed something to do after my HD blew up and I ended up plowing through the whole season in about a week.

It was way more violent than I expected. But it didn't bother me all that much.

I think Exam is still on Netflix streaming. If not, Jiro Dreams of Sushi is surprisingly fascinating. For a little more violence, there's Tell Me and I Will Forget (a documentary about paramedics in South Africa). I don't have any good TV show recs, but I occasionally watch Call the Midwife. It's good birth control. :-)

Jiro will make you want to go eat sushi.

X-Files.

Seasons 3 through 5 are its very best years IMO.

That's arguable, but if you skip seasons 1 and 2 you'd be missing out on some great episodes, a few of which are usually considered classics: Squeeze, Ice, Eve, Beyond the Sea, Tooms, The Host, Humbug.

I would recommend "Three Days of the Condor", which I learned is on Netflix now. It is an espionage movie, made in the 70s, but the storyline is still relevant. It is an excellent film.

The movie is based on the book "Six Days of the Condor", which was a fantastic read.

Great movie, and I don't care much for espionage type films.

This probably just really dorky and me dating myself slightly but Dinosaurs, the Henson company show. I loved that show so much as a kid and doing a recent re-watch made me giggle up a storm, and gape a little now that I'm older and get all the sly adult jokes.

Europa Report (movie), Call the Midwife (series), A Monster in Paris (movie)

Also completely biased and have talked about it before, but Netflix got me into The 100 (series).
