yeah I thought the same when pinecest and elsa/anna got hugely popular straight away, I mean I've been on the internet long enough to expect these ships but I just ... thought it'd be the creepy underground ship not become the biggest one straight off the bat. Like I totally expected Dipper/Robbie and Hans/Kristoff to be the most popular ships, but nope. Incest won over slash for some bizarre reason.

I'm guessing it's because the shippers are attracted to Rick and Morty makes a good sub to him.
Can't really comprehend it, because all the fondness Rick (or Morty) shows is clearly domestic. More domestic than some other incest ships anyhow.

Also, there's Devil x Rick for the usual attractive slash pairing.

I was definitely feeling the devil/rick (and devil/summer). But I was also super feeling jerry/loser rick. And I could get behind eyepatch Morty/other mortys :y

Oh yeah, those are all interesting pairings. Jerry/Loser Rick was so heartfelt. I actually also like Summer/Jessica, not just as contrary f/f.

I would have expected more popularity for eyepatch Morty/other Mortys. Maybe these characters need to show up again to give ground for a more substantial shipping following.

But I am genuinely surprised (and slightly uncomfortable about) that a significant amount of the fanfiction that already exists is for Rick/Morty

I know fandom has a tendency to ship any two male charactes together, but I would have thought they'd explore a couple other non-canon ships before shipping a teenage boy with his alcoholic grandfather.

I just don't get the appeal of this ship
