Have you ever read Active and Passive Euthanasia by James Rachels? I think euthanasia is wrong in the most shocking case he discusses (child can be saved but is unwanted), but I can definitely see why someone would support it in a case where no surgery is possible and the child will inevitably die.

Well, for me I'd definitely see it as something for terminally ill children who are chronically suffering - which, you know, do exist.

DA

I am the survivor of a passive euthanasia attempt, which is why I am absolutely against euthanasia of all forms. It's too easy to make a value judgement that could turn out to be completely wrong, like some doctors/nurses almost did to me. Yet here I am, several decades on, a taxpaying contributor to society. If my parents hadn't fought back against the system, society would have lost a contributing member.

I've made a similar argument in the past, anti-suicide based on a dying person who was talked out of suicide and recovered. The person I was arguing with questioned my point: what about the people who don't recover, and who die slowly in terrible pain? How much suffering is each potential life worth? I had no way to answer him.
