Only thing that's really changed is that I'm less introverted now than I was as a kid. Granted, I was extraverted-leaning in my earliest years and turned towards introversion as a coping mechanism. Being quite and docile (opposite of being loud, excited, and clingy) didn't get me yelled at or shut down by adults, relatives, or generally any figure with authority.

Also I really, really tried to convince myself I was perfectly fine being by myself and that I didn't have a supreme desire for companionship. 20+ years later and only now am I letting myself say that "holy fuck I was lonely and desperate."

So I grew out of lying to myself that I was perfectly content the way I was and didn't want anything more out of life.

And also grew out of internalized homophobia and transphobia after turning like, 17 or so. That also explained some shit as a kid.
