Hey guys,

People have been asking for more secrets per post and asking why the subs post is closed and the subs post is filling up really fast and stuff and -- well ok anyway, we decided to up the secret max to 700 a week (starting with the submission post in an hour, which means you'll get to see them a week from now). Which means a couple of things:

A) potentially 100 secrets a post, yay (!!!111!/???/.../eta: HOLY CRAP -- take your pick)
B) we're limiting the file size to 600x600px from 800x800px to cut down on loading times for people (sorry if your secret is already made and ready or something)
C) ???
D) wank profit fandomsecrets

Anyone have any suggestions or questions or problems or anything before we put this into practice?

Note: these posts begin Saturday the 26th and on -- that is, the secrets submitted next week, not this week!

Note 2: If you can, avoid using imageshack.us to host your files! They tend to run out of bandwidth quickly and then your secret can't be seen. If you need other sites to use, tinypic.com and photobucket.com are two more reliable image hosts.

Note 3: It's not actually the dimensions but the file sizes of the images that matter the most regarding loading time -- we're just using the dimensions as a guideline because it's something everyone understands. If you could try to keep the file size of your image as low as possible (save them as .jpg/.gif, not .bmp/.png for example), that would help us out a ton. For those looking for file converters, [livejournal.com profile] haruhiism recs this one here.

I have to admit, I don't think this is necessary. Quality is more important than quantity, no? I'd much rather read 30 interesting unique secrets than 50 secrets in which someone squees, "OMG I ship X+Y!!"

It's your com, I think you have the right to be selective. :)

Dunno about 100 secrets per post. I used to read every secret, but I've already started to skip over the really long ones and the ones from unfamiliar fandoms to save time. I know you guys don't want to turn people away, but 100 secrets might be a serious overload. :\

suggestion to change the secret increase to the next submissions post?

Just thinking... uhhh, a week warning will make it so that anyone with pre-made secrets gets one last submissions post to squeeze them in before they become Too Big Secrets.

IRFANVIEW is a nice free image editor that lets you do all manner of things for the cost of NOWT. You can also batch resize, which is nice for those of us who take a lot of photos.

I dunno how good it is for doing Photoshop type stuff as I'm shit at that kind of malarky (I have a resident graphic designer at home if I need that kind of stuff), but I do use it to resize all the time at work and home.

Right! I use it all the time and it's very reliable.

Why don't you just ban all of the "I hate this anime/show/book/ship/characters and don't get why anyone could like it" secrets? I mean, unless the secret involves pretending that you like it, it's not a fucking secret. This would cut down the amount of secrets posted to some more tolerable level.

IAWTC

For example there was a recent "I hate anime" secret. So? Why should I care if someone doesn't like something that I do like? It would have been one thing if they added "but all my friends think I love it and I'm afraid to tell them the truth" but that didn't happen.

I also agree.

I recently discovered this comm, I´ve been perusing older posts, and it happens a lot that the subs are not secrets, they are just statements. People saying that they hate certain ship or certain anime is not a secret.

Oh goddammit, and I just read about this new sizing bullshit AFTER I submit all of my will-fit-the-800x800-requirement secrets.

You fucking bastards. >[

you obviously haven't been paying attention

Instead of making there be 100 secrets in each post and limiting the size, why not just keep the same ammount of secrets in each post and the same size limit, but make two posts a day instead of one?

[identity profile] jetaimerai.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
How strict are the size dimensions? If the image is only a few pixels over, will it still be posted?

[identity profile] onnaevilsmith.livejournal.com 2008-02-16 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
This'll be AWESOME XD

(Anonymous) 2008-03-11 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
What if, say, a secret is too large in one dimension, but below the limit an equal amount in the other? Is it really picky, or is there a reasonable amount of leeway?

[personal profile] conflict 2008-04-12 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
I like. And 600x600 is reasonable. Plus it means we get more = squee!

[identity profile] lunchy.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised to see the request to not host on imageshack, since my images have always worked. Plus, the broken links tend to be more from tinypic than anything else (from my observations, anyway).

Shit.

Once upon a time, [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets had to beg for secrets.
