I don't think it's entirely fair to lay the blame for this at DC's feet when their own comics have been for the past year or so straying away from the oppressively grim tone that's been present since Flashpoint.

No, the problem here is Warner Brothers. They hate comics and the people who read them, and they think that their viewing audience are a bunch of morons who, like WB, mistake "grimm und kholde" for "realistic."

Or maybe they're looking at Marvel's success and going "Tuh, anyone can do that, fuck that let's just fuck around."

That's what happens when you have a bunch of joyless beancounters running the show.

No shit. Things have been looking up for DC with the move to California, though, and I'm hoping a bit of a sea change in how WB approaches their movies will follow suit.

DC's finally coming out of their joyless, grimdark post-Flashpoint phase? Huh. Too bad I can't bring myself to care about them anymore.

The new Batgirl run and Gotham Academy alone are wonderful.

Same. People keep claiming they're getting better, and maybe they're right, but things will have to be more than just "not as bad" for me to care anymore.

I guess the silver lining is I was spending $50-$70 on DC comics per month for a while leading up to and immediately after the New 52. And now, I occasionally give them like... $3. So I'm saving good money :)
