I think what a lot of people are't getting is that there aren't many people to look up to who don't want kids. There are people who are childless, but not by choice, and all too often people are told they'll change their mind and want kids. To see someone in the public eye who sticks to "I don't want kids" is nice because, you know, you don't feel so alone and it makes it just a bit easier to deal with the comments and pressuring and whining about how you owe your family/significant other/whatever a kid.

Yeah but this is, like, the worst hill ever upon which to raise your flag if you want to talk about actual childfree celebrities

If you actually spend time in childfree circles you'll find there are plenty of people - maybe not big time Hollywood celebrities and such but writers, speakers, and generally awesome motivational folks - who are very adamant about their childfree choice in life and speaking out about it. Otherwise one should never assume to know the reasons why a person is childless. It could be by choice, it could be otherwise. Stand up for your own choices and don't rely on needing others to validate it.

Easy enough to say "STAND UP AND STAND BY YOUR CHOICES!!!" when you don't have literally everyone in your life, face-to-face, nagging you to have kids. Hearing something enough tends to break you down.

I've been dealing with infertility for 10 years and have to constantly hear it from my own mother (among others) because we chose not go to through fertility treatments/adoption. Like I literally had her threaten to disown me at one point because I decided not to bankrupt myself and ruin my relationship with my partner over a far-fetched possibility of ever giving birth. So please fuck off and don't tell me what I have or haven't dealt with in my life.

Totally, but you gotta look for people who have actually said "I don't want kids" rather than clinging to random people who happen to not have kids right now and getting resentful if they break a promise they never made.

I remember an interview (It was with Piers Morgan IIRC) where she said she was glad she never had kids and never regreted the choice not to have them.
