It's very easy to stop trusting people in fandom

I'm sorry it made you scared to stop giving gifts OP, but it's very easy to stop trusting that a gift is just a gift when you've had a lot of people feel entitled to work from you.

Being a somewhat popular fanartist means I am constantly flooded with messages about requests or trades, or people telling me they'll do something for me but only IF I do something for them. I honestly find it kind of rude to ask for requests from strangers but that's me.

If I did receive a gift and it came with a polite message though, I wouldn't assume the worst of you. I would be extremely happy. I would never ask for it though because I know the concept of giving a "gift" has gotten a lot more complicated in fandom these days.
