Still, try a hot compress. Run a washcloth under the hottest tap water your bathroom sink will produce, wring it out, and apply it to the area. It softens the sebum in the outer layers of the dermis and allows the build-up to more quickly come to a whitehead and expel itself.

Also helps with the pain quite a bit.
