When it comes to background, I agree with you

When it comes to motives, idk. If someone grew up poor and is still poor and is stealing an apple because they can't afford it and they're starving, obviously I am going to judge them less harshly than the rich kid shoplifting for thrills. Background can tie into necessity

Ofc, things like rape and premeditated murder are never "necessary" so I'd judge everyone the same for those
