That it's somehow more acceptable or understandable to commit crimes when you have grown up in poverty or without the same possibilities as someone else. Fuck that. Lack of options doesn't make anyone less morally culpable.

When it comes to background, I agree with you

When it comes to motives, idk. If someone grew up poor and is still poor and is stealing an apple because they can't afford it and they're starving, obviously I am going to judge them less harshly than the rich kid shoplifting for thrills. Background can tie into necessity

Ofc, things like rape and premeditated murder are never "necessary" so I'd judge everyone the same for those

I agree, but I think this is not just an ethical problem on the level of the individual but also a political problem on the level of society. and when you approach it from a political point of view, I think the circumstances of poverty etc are absolutely relevant and needed to be discussed if you want to grapple seriously with the problem.
